Sony PSP 2 Codenamed NGP

After a five-and-a-half-year hiatus, PlayStationMeeting 2011 was held in Tokyo today. Now the rumored next generation PSP 2 portable game console has been unveiled. It’s codenamed NGP (Next Generation Portable).

What is worth mentioning, Sony has unveiled NGP’s detailed specs. The main specifications include a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, 5-inch touchscreen OLED display with 960 x 544 resolution, front-facing and rear cameras, dual analog stickers, six-axis sensor system (three-axis accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope), a rear-mounted touchpad, an electronic compass, and built-in GPS. Moreover, Sony PSP 2 will support 3G, WiFi, and Bluetooth. And the brand new storage system will replace the old UMD.

Anyway, new generation Sony Play Station will bring us five main features including revolutionary UI, integration of social networks, location-based entertainment, Augmented Reality, and compatibility with PlayStation Suite and backward compatibility with downloadable PSP games and content.

It’s rumored that NGP will be available during this holiday season. And the retail price is 45,000 yen (about $542 USD). The available colors include black and white. And from the 82 game companies taking part in the meeting, we have reason to believe Sony PSP 2 is likely to become the most popular next generation portable game console.
