The Buddy is an affordable and versatile smart robot designed to bring you much convenience in your house. The family robot measures 560 x 350 x 350mm, weights about 5kg, and it comes equipped with 3 wheels and a plethora of sensors that allow it to patrol your house. Once detecting unusual situations such as temperature increment, sensing fires and floods, the Buddy will send you alerts.
The companion robot also features speech recognition, human & object defection, recognition & tracking and text-to-speech, so it can communicate and interact with you, and its 8-inch screen not only displays its expression, but also shows you various content such as recipes, video chat, and more. Moreover, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth allow the smart robot to join in your local network and connect with the smart devices in your house, which means you can also help you remotely control those connected devices.
The Buddy has a modular design that allows you to add new functions by its two interchangeable arms, and its open source SDK encourage developers to bring more features to the smart robot. Apart from that, its rechargeable battery offers 8 to 10 hours of usage.
The Buddy companion robot has been available for preorder on Indiegogo. You can pledge $549 to own the robot and its tool kit. It will be shipped in May 2016.
