Apparently the designers behind Sphero has applied their advanced technologies from their iconic app-controlled robotic ball to the BB-8, a newly added robot in upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awaken, but I’m very curious about how they keep BB-8’s head on the top of its spherical body even when it runs on the ground.

As we can see from the images, the BB-8 droid fully replicates all details from its original design. The only difference is the app-enabled replica is much smaller than the original BB-8. As an app-enabled droid, it can wirelessly connected with your smartphone or tablet, and it’s compatible with iOS and Android devices so you can use your mobile device to remotely control the mini droid.

As a smart droid, the BB-8 can show a range of expressions based on your interactions, and it recognizes and reacts to your voices. When you give voice commands, the little droid even perks up. Moreover, you can also set it to patrol and watch the BB-8 explores autonomously, and same as R2-D2, the droid allows you to create and view holographic recordings.
